Unpopular opinion #1

I just watched some Life on Mars today. I have never been able to finish the second season, even though I’ve seen all of Ashes to Ashes and I think I know why now.

I don’t really like Sam Tyler. He is a nice guy, definitely. He has a lot of smarts but he’s always one step behind, and Gene gets all of the glory. For me at least, there’s no real energy with his character.

Yet, I feel like he would have been an amazing character if he’d been policing Manchester 2006. I would have been very interested to at least see more of his policing in 2006.

THAT IS NOT TO SAY THAT I DON’T LIKE JOHN SIMM. I haven’t seen much of Simm’s work, but he seems to be a pretty good actor. I just wish Sam Tyler, the character, had been in a different story.
